Week 6 in Review: Uploads Taking Over
1,500+ new products on Setly (uploaded by all of you!) + a new way to compete.
Earlier this week we rolled out one of our biggest updates yet: the ability to upload your own items into Setly using a photo or screenshot. And in just a few days, nearly 1,500 new products have been uploaded, growing the overall Setly catalog by nearly 10% in under a week.
This feature is doing exactly what we intended: giving you more agency over your closet and more flexibility in the brands you choose to add to your outfits. The added depth and diversity in your closets has been amazing to see.
This update also introduced a new layer of strategy to Setly’s points and sticker system. You can now earn points for each approved upload, and even more when someone else adds one of your uploads to their own closet. It’s added a fun new incentive to contribute items that others will genuinely want to discover and use in their outfits.
As many of you know, we’ve also implemented a manual review process for uploads. And this week made us especially grateful we did. Roughly 20% of uploads are denied, usually for image quality issues. While it adds a bit more work on our end, it’s been essential for keeping the platform cohesive, consistent, and fun to explore. At least for now, it’s a process we plan to keep in place.
Huge shoutout to @mathilde, @isabellaxxx, @maddiebaby, @kettii, @olivia, @laurinkaaa, @pippaputtock, @anna, @clowita, and @donthatebenice whose outfits were selected for “Editor’s Pick” and are featured in the image above!
Some Quiet but Important Improvements
While most of our attention this week went toward ensuring a smooth rollout for Uploads, we quietly shipped a few additional upgrades behind the scenes.
The biggest one: chat notifications are finally here.
You’ll now see a small red dot at the top of your screen whenever you have unread messages, and you’ll get a separate push notification when you receive a DM. It’s a small detail, but it makes the community feel much more alive and connected.
We also fixed a handful of smaller bugs, including some issues with swiping and occasional crashes, to help keep things fast and stable.
What’s Coming in Version 1.1.9
With uploads stable, we’re shifting back toward community-driven improvements. Our next update includes several highly requested features:
Progress bars for new Upload stickers: so you can track progress the same way you can for your other sticker sets. (suggested by @isabellaa)
Subcategory filters for bags in your profile: sort by clutch, shoulder bag, tote, etc. (suggested by @jane_shad_11)
A dedicated “Bags” swiping category: for better discovery. (suggested by @lily24)
Notifications when someone uses your upload in an outfit: a little heads-up that your contributions are inspiring others. (suggested by @zoro)
Plus a series of smaller bug fixes and stability improvements.
What’s Next: The Arena
Now that the Uploads rollout is in a good place, we’re turning our focus to the next big chapter: the Arena, a dedicated home for outfit competitions.
This includes introducing a brand-new challenge type called Combinations, which uses a conveyor-belt-style interface for mixing and matching items quickly and intuitively. The bigger vision here is simple: more competitions, more variety, and more reasons to hop into Setly every day.
Challenges have become one of the most loved parts of Setly, and the Arena is our way of expanding that world, making it more dynamic, more creative, and more fun.
Thanks for being such a driving force behind Setly. Every update this week was shaped by your ideas, your feedback, and the way you use the app. We’re excited to keep building alongside you, and we can’t wait to show you what’s coming next.
- Erin & Andrew, Founders of Setly
P.S. We haven’t forgotten about Android- we’re making more and more progress on it every week. Thank you for your patience!
